OUR FOLIC ACID SUPPLEMENT
Our folic acid supplement provides 400μg of high-quality methylfolate in capsule form. We have used L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) to form our folic acid health supplement. L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate is the metabolically active form of folic acid and is found in nature. Synthetic folic acid has to undergo several biochemical conversions in the body to become 5-MTHF. By supplementing with 5-MTHF rather than synthetic folic acid, one can be assured of getting all the benefits of folic acid.
WHAT DOES FOLIC ACID DO?
Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. The beneficial effect is obtained with a supplemental folic acid daily intake of 400μg for at least one month before and up to three months after conception for women of child bearing age.
